I am running very close to my deadline. This is starting to look a little worrying!! However, fear not, basecoats are down on the vehicles and this should gather speed very soon. See where I am at right now, after the jump.
With a little over two weeks left before Vanquish 2014 I am working feverishly to finish my Minotaurs. Things are starting to come together but my blogging has definitely suffered as I spend every moment not at work building drop pods and prepping parts for the last stage of the painting process.
All of the infantry are at a stage where the traditional brush work is finished bar painting the guns and some heads separately from the main models.
The Centurions are one such unit at that stage. Read on to see how they are looking now.
With the Word Bearers reinforced I have turned my attention back to the Minotaurs. I have actually finished the brush work on the Tactical/Sternguard squads now which leaves the Centurions, Terminators and Characters before moving on to painting the weapons for everyone.
Much the same as with the last combat squad. Building up the highlights and a few more washes. Then detailing like script on purity seals etc. Hopefully this squad will be complete by the end of the week. Then I shall decide whether to do the guns/heads/bases or to move on and do another squad.. we shall see. Either way I need to hurry up.
I have made some good progress with the first five Sternguard. All colours have been painted now but more processes to come. First some decals then onto oil washes and finally weathering.
I am still marching on with this project. I have now blocked out all the other colours on the first five Sternguard. In a video by Les Bursley about painting red he advises that you use pinks to highlight reds. I have always been unsure with reds as I do not like the finish orange highlights give but pink just feels wrong. Having said that, I think it actually looks pretty good. I still need to tidy up some dumb highlighting etc and then I shall be putting glazes over the red so the pink will be less pink and more red at the end.
Work on the Minotaur army painting continues. I have now finished most of the airbrush stages. Bronze coat through to Silver/Gold zenithal highlights have been applied and now I am working on getting the idiosyncratic Bronze back by applying a number of washes.
Although I was hoping to get paint started yesterday I underestimated the amount of fiddly finishing touches that were still needed. I also totally forgot I needed a Librarian.. luckily I had the parts on hand to build the guy above. However, I am now at the point to start painting the infantry although I shall have to do the weapons later when I have finished up the hammers that can be seen below.
I have booked the next week off of work so I can have a geek holiday. I have rearranged the office to make it easier to mess with multiple tasks at the same time and with this I am hoping to make some really significant progress on my Minotaur army.
I finally cracked open the Centurion box to build the unit for my Minotaur army. It appears the kit was designed to fit specific poses very well but this does not lead to easy reposing.
The unit is finally ready for paint. The hammers and shields will be finished alongside all the other weapons in the army (bolters etc) at a later date.
I have had a battle with the mould for this during the week. Two moulds later and I am finally casting. Still some tidy up needed and maybe a few alterations to the mould but as I only need 5 it isn't too much hassle.
It seems bigger now... I am considering a double sided hammer for the sergeant. Does this sound like a good plan?
My Minotuars army will have a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield equipped squad of Terminators. These guys will be Asterion Moloc's personal bodyguard and as such I wanted them to be absolute beasts. They needed to be bigger and meaner than your regular Terminator.
One of the first things I could think of was to give them some seriously heavy weapons. These guys are the Bulls of the Minotaurs after all.
So with one whole Tactical squad built I have kept the momentum going and finished the second squads first Combat Squad.
After getting the first Minotaurs Tactical Squad done I am on a roll and I have already finished the Heavy Bolter guy for the second squad.
Martok here, playing around with some ideas for my Minotaurs. Hopefully defining my list for Vanquish will help me with working through this army methodically. List after the jump.
Slow progress is being made on the Minotaurs but progress none the less. Today I give you the first look at my Assault Squad
