Although I did not complete this batch of models over the weekend as planned I have at least got them up to a playable standard now. I may come back to these guys and add highlights/oil washes/weathering when time permits. Right now I am just looking forward to seeing them on the board.
A small update today showing off the basing work for the few Word Bearers I need to finish for this weekends Vanquish Skirmish tournament at Bristol Vanguard Wargaming. This were thrown together with some pumice and then various scatter using brass etch, rocks, skulls etc.
As discussed in my last post regarding the Minotaurs painting progress, I need to create a Dark Apostle and Chaos Lord for my Word Bearer army as I shall be using the force for a few upcoming tournaments. Also it might be a possibility that the Minotaurs will take longer than hoped so this force will also be a back up for Bristol Vanguard's Vanquish Tournament.
Pictures after the jump.
I have been working feverishly to get these Word Bearers done. The big batch paint of about 100 models has now hit a point where I am picking up a unit at a time to finish off. Last night I managed to get the bikers to a point where I could varnish and leave them ready for a tournament this weekend.
There is a lot more work to be done on these guys but for now they are ready to shed blood for Chaos.
My Word Bearers are finally getting there! With the army taking so long and so much of my hobby time being taken up with casting or playing I decided to start painting at work during my lunch hour. Thus far this has been immensely rewarding. The five hours a week is essentially the same amount of time as I could squeeze in normally, so my productivity has really spiked. Above are all the models with a base layer of metallics and below are those still awaiting the same treatment.
No matter how many times I say I shall stop doing massive batch paints I always seem to end up doing it again! 80+ models in those two boxes O_o

I have been working hard to try and get the Word Bearers finished. In the hopes of finishing a big chunk in one go I was working on both of my Daemon Engines at the same time. It is worth noting that these are not the official kits for the Forgefiend or for the Heldrake.... I felt that Word Bearers were unlikely to use Daemon Engines and were more suited to cutting out the middle man and just fielding Daemons.
My planned post for today covering the Mordheim campaign suffered some technical issues (rubbish photos..). Instead here is the progress on my Word Bearers Chaos Lord. Ignore some of the shiney bits these will be purged with a satin varnish at the end.
I have actually made some progress with the Word Bearers. After putting together the Chaos Lord my passion for the project has really kicked in. There is still a lot of work to be done and now I have some photos I am noticing a lot of areas that need fixing but he is progressing well.
A quick post today. While I was working on the GS fur for my Mordheim warband I thought I would add some to this model. I feel it adds a further barbarism to him which suits the Legion.

I have been trying to push the boat out on the Word Bearers Conversions. Above is the finalized version of my Chaos Lord although I may consider adding a Trophy Rack to his backpack as no self respecting Chaos Warlord can go without a few loyalists skulls about his person.
Read on to see the new conversions for the Sorcerer and first squad of Word Bearer Chaos Space Marines.
Quick post today jsut to show what I have been working on this weekend. Above you can see the current state of my Chaos Lord for the Word Bearers army I am working on. Below is a First draft as it were while I played around with some alternative parts. Oddly, i bought the model as I thought the Deamonic Head would be perfect for Word Bearers and then after a few head swap tests I found the trusty Chaos Knight heads looked much more appropriate.

I had some credit with the guys at Promethean so I decided to pick up the Heldrake. After this thing literally cutting me while building it (so many spikes/blades) I put the airbrush coats of red down and I am now detailing. Take a look after the jump.
I finally have my copy of Dark Vengeance back so I can get the core of the Word Bearers going. Not a big post today but after the jump I have some sneak peeks for you.
With his Word Bearer project developing at pace Martok reveals a long term project of his to build a Bipedal Defiler.
Martok has been working on a number of projects and he is going to take us through them all in turn hopefully with some pictures too!
