Bloody Dice

The My FLGS Warhammer 40k Campaign this Autumn/Winter The Otu Gata Incident requires players to have a "Home" tile from Planetary Empires. When you have one of these you can then start claiming territory. If not you are just brawling.

As I am going for Word Bearers I wanted a suitably moody looking tile. I dug deep in the bits box to find some fire and pieces of tech that could work as generators etc. The core of the piece is the cathedral/church which is actually a Monopoly Hotel (don't tell the girlfriend!).

My FLGS is running their first Warhammer 40k Campaign this Autumn/Winter The Otu Gata Incident. They have gone all out with some interesting rules to drive the map based campaign.

A good friend and fellow gamer at the FLGS is leaving to work in Hong Kong. The gamers that we are the only suitable way to say goodbye was to put 8000pts on the board and fight it out.

Like my Plaguedrake I decided a more daemonic look would be better for a Word Bearers Forgefiend. The bonus of using the Vortex Beast/Slaughterbrute kit is that I only need to remove the vortex which is pinned and I can use it as a maulerfiend as well.

Joel from Paintmybits has finished his Large Scale Ultramarine Sergeant. Here is the  WIP if you want to see how he got to this stage. For once I shall just let the pictures do the talking.

I have been having a ball painting these guys. They are 99% complete just need to chuck some weathering powders on them and the Dark Vengeance Chosen are ready for eBay.

The guy above is my personal favourite. That axe is just gnarly.

When Dark Vengeance came out I split a bunch of boxes with various friends in order to get hold of 60 cultists. I ended up with a lot of spare models some of which I shall use to give some build variety to my Word Bearers (which will be very useful in an upcoming escalation league at the FLGS) and others will be going spare.

Out of those going spare are 3 Chaos Lord Kranon the Relentless'. I have painted them up in a batch and all that is left to paint are the cloaks.

When I started the Word Bearers I picked up the Heldrake kit. After stabbing myself numerous times with various plastic blades that model has attached to it I ended up getting some paint down and everything was going well. I manged to get it to this stage and then promptly fell out of love with the model entirely.

Something about it just didn't work with the Word Bearers... Daemon Engines are for the Iron Warriors and the like... Then I realised what I should do. The Word Bearers would use Deamons pure and simple. So With that in mind I started hunting for a valid kit to use as a Dragon/Daemon.  After a short look around the GW site I decided on the Terrorgheist and I knew it was the winner.

I have been working on this Night Lord Warp Talon/Raptor for awhile now. Progress was delayed for awhile as I have been making my own cast bases and getting the moulds done, the resin poured and then everything cleaned up took a little while.

Well the base is now complete and he is up to the point where I can start weathering.

I have been looking at Dropzone Commander for quite some time now. The models are really nice and I have heard great things about the gameplay from my friends who have already taken the plunge. The draw back for me has been cost. Sometimes the cost has been nigh on hilarious, especially in the case of their resin buildings. However, this premium cost appears to be part of their start up and as they grow and gain traction with the market they are looking much more reasonable and offer options that are far more affordable; for example card terrain for an entire 6'x4' city at half the price of one of the previously linked buildings.

Now they have really upped their game in terms of value; a starter set allowing two players to get playing straight out of the box for a reasonable price (the same price as one of those buildings...):

I have been meaning to show off the my full Necron Army for quite some time. I have gone over the army and how I painted it in this Showcase series so I wont go through it again. This post is all about the pics.

My Word Bearers are finally getting there! With the army taking so long and so much of my hobby time being taken up with casting or playing I decided to start painting at work during my lunch hour. Thus far this has been immensely rewarding. The five hours a week is essentially the same amount of time as I could squeeze in normally, so my productivity has really spiked. Above are all the models with a base layer of metallics and below are those still awaiting the same treatment.

No matter how many times I say I shall stop doing massive batch paints I always seem to end up doing it again! 80+ models in those two boxes O_o

A little while ago I posted that I had been having a hobby clean up. I have cleared my cupboard and work desk and put everything that is not actually part of a project that is currently in progress in a big box for eBay. Here is my first round of auctions.

When Codex Tau Empire was released earlier this year I was really excited to dive in and start the good fight for The Greater Good. However, as I read over the rumours and then the physical Codex itself it came to light that you could not take Crisis Suits as troops. This was something I had hoped for as the idea really interested me.

After realising I would not be using the list I had envisioned for this Codex I started playing around with a few ideas using Massed Fire Warriors with Battle Suit support. Eventually my steam ran out as I was no longer hooked on the idea. Fast forward a few months and I read some rumours regarding a Tau Codex Supplement called Farsight Enclaves :O I knew right there and then that this would be my autumn project for this year and with any luck (ie they do not totally suck on the tabletop) will be my tournament army for next year.

I had some Dark Vengeance models left over after picking up a few sets to get Cultists etc for my Word Bearers army. These are, much like my Night Lords Warp Talon being painted to put on eBay as I have no relevant project for them. I like doing this as I find I try out new things when working on things that aren't "my" projects. I think this is because I know I won't be repeating these new things a hundred odd times throughout an army.

I posted some pics of this Night Lords Warp Talon conversion on Bolter and Chainsword last week. In that post I received a number of comments pointing out that I had not used any gold trim. This gold trim is part of the traditional Night Lords heraldry and I totally missed it... so here it is with some trim added. I must say I think it has added a great deal to the model. It looked rather plain before but I was worried about adding too much colour and losing the Midnight Clad style. Thankfully the gold has added some punch without lifting the tone of the model too far.

Really fighting the urge to make a project of this rather than a one off...

I am really enjoying the challenge of painting the Night Lords Scheme. I have managed to get all of the basic colours onto the model and I have even finished modelling his base.

I have been looking at picking up the boardgame Incursion by Grindhouse Games for quite some time. Today I woke up to find that they are running a Kickstarter campaign here. This is to put together a higher quality 2nd edition for the game and its supplements. With an all new design and the mandatory Kickstarter freebies now is the time for me to pick it up.
